Tara Milton and Paul Bassett played together in the Oxford and Reading areas
since 1985, and Paul Hopper joined after they moved to London in the late
eighties.
Their vibrant live shows got them signed to East West, and debut single
'Abstain' entered the top 75. This was the first of five singles that the band
were to release and one album 'Bed' (1991). Although the album was full of
wonderful, well played songs, it failed to shift units. This was primarily
because it was not 'baggy' or indie dance - the fashionable style of the time.
If 5:30 had happened five years later, around the time that Oasis broke then,
well who knows what might of been.
Phil Hopper left to persue an acting career and Five Thirty split up in 1992.
Paul Bassett later appeared in Orange Deluxe, and Tara Milton in The Nubiles.
